This is my first thread on the fourm... im really glad i found this site. its already helped me with my bike before i even signed up to be a member.
i recently bought a 2008 GS500F with ~7400 miles. as i was cleaning it the first time i noticed the sight glass window on the front brake master cylinder was cloudy so i wiped it with a shop rag and my thumb. barely pushing on it made it break. i know i could just replace the window but that seems tedious. and a brand new one for a gs500f runs atleast 150$ up to 200$ that a local shop quoted me for just the part not including labor for install. i have fixed it so that i am able to ride it. (nut and bolt, 2 washers and some make your own gasket sealant and it seems to be holding tight.)
my question is will this other mastercylinder work for my bike? i bought it for 20$ and i think it will. i cant remember what its from but i can find out soon. it fits a 1" handle bars and the bars on mine are 7/8" and i bought some 7/8"-1" handlebar adapters that will allow me to put them on the bars.
please let me know what you guys think..

Pretty much any master cylinder will work, so long as the diameter of the banjo bolt is the same as the GS500. You'll want to make sure that the piston diameter is similar or identical to the GS. Larger masters will tend to travel less, but transmit less force to the calipers. Smaller masters will tend to require less effort and more travel.

You might also want to make sure that the brake light switch from the donor master works with the GS500 wiring. All-in-all a replacement from ebay is your best bet.

Me and another dude on this forum are going to give changing the sight window a go. It looks like you just need some silicone and a $15 piece of glass!!
